Washington, D.C. (July 22, 2019) – Yesterday, Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, along with Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Elijah E. Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Anthony Brown, Jamie Raskin, and David Trone, announced $125 million in federal funding for the Howard Street Tunnel, which comes on top of the $91 million commitment that the Maryland Delegation worked to secure from CSX, the company that owns the tunnel.
Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) made the following statement in regards to the U.S. House of Representatives taking up the issue of the Cadillac Tax:
"The cost estimate for this bill is $168 billion over the next ten years, yet Members of Congress who criticized the Trump tax cuts were willing to eliminate this tax and increase our debt and deficit. While almost every Democrat supported the bill, I'm surprised so many of them cast a vote in favor of repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)."

"The CBO estimates we will lose up to 3.7 million jobs by increasing the minimum wage to $15 on a federal level. The last thing we need is to slow the economy."

Washington, DC – U.S. Representatives Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), H. Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Debbie Dingell (D-MI), and Rob Bishop (R-UT) today introduced the Medical Marijuana Research Act of 2019. This bill addresses burdensome processes that currently impede legitimate medical research on marijuana. This bipartisan piece of legislation would amend the Controlled Substances Act to establish a new, separate registration process to facilitate research with marijuana for medical purposes.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced a $25,000 award to the Town of Vienna for rural development from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the USDA, the "investment will be used to fund a preliminary engineering report (PER) and environmental report (ER) to study options for improving water quality and water system operations in Vienna, Maryland. The PER and ER reports will analyze proposed alternatives for improvement and estimated costs to determine the feasibility and potential environmental impacts of each possible solution."
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, July 15th, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) awarded $4,280,186 to Bloosurf, a broadband high speed internet provider for rural homes and businesses in Maryland's First District. According to the FCC, the funds represent "the third wave of support from last year's successful Connect America Fund Phase II auction… The Connect America Fund Phase II auction is part of a broader effort by the FCC to close the digital divide in rural America."
