Harris Announces Grant for Hurlock Police Department
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $12,550 federal grant to the town of Hurlock, located in Dorchester County. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development.
The funds will be administered through the Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants program. According to USDA, "this program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas." Essential facilities include public safety services such as fire departments, police stations, prisons, police vehicles, fire trucks, public works vehicles or equipment.
The grant will specifically be used to purchase a police vehicle for the Hurlock Police Department.
Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:
"As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this federal grant to the Hurlock Police Department. The brave men and women who patrol our streets and keep us safe from crime deserve the tools and transportation required to get the job done. Our health and safety is a top priority, and as a physician, I particularly appreciate our first-responders and the timely assistance they provide in rural towns on the Eastern Shore."
