WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. voted for an extension of the pay freeze on all federal civilian employees when he voted for H.R. 273 today. The bill would continue to freeze pay adjustments through December 31, 2013. The freeze includes Members of Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. was appointed by his Republican colleagues to the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Congressman Harris will be filling a vacancy created by the retirement by Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson. He is only member from Maryland and only physician serving on the committee.

“I appreciate the support of my colleagues to serve on this important committee,” said Congressman Harris. “I look forward to joining Chairman Rogers to control spending and put our nation back on a path toward fiscal responsibility.”

“Like so many of President Obama’s other lofty speeches, his words do not match his actions. Four straight trillion dollar deficits under the President’s watch clearly show we have a spending problem. Unfortunately, instead of focusing on getting Americans working again and reducing our deficit, President Obama focused on issues like gun control and climate change.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. introduced the “Harriet Tubman National Historical Parks Act” (H.R. 513) this week to establish two federal parks honoring the life of Harriet Tubman. The first park would be the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park in Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties in Maryland. The second is the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn, New York. Rep. Harris introduced identical legislation (H.R. 4007) in the 112th Congress.

WASHINGTON, DC—Yesterday, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-1) introduced “The Government Neutrality in Contracting Act” (H.R. 436) which would level the playing field for construction workers applying for federal contracts and those funded by federal dollars. The legislation currently has 55 cosponsors in the House of Representatives. Rep. Harris is partnering with Senator David Vitter from Louisiana who introduced similar legislation in the U.S. Senate last week, S. 109.

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. introduced a Joint Resolution that would limit the number of consecutive terms that a person could serve in the U.S. Congress. It would limit persons to two consecutive terms in the U.S. Senate and six consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

WASHINGTON, DC: This evening, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. supported an amendment that would provide $17.1 billion in aid for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Last evening, Congressman Harris co-sponsored and voted for The Sandy Recovery Improvement Act of 2013 that will streamline the relief effort for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy and future storms. The amendment did not have the massive pork barrel spending for items not related to Hurricane Sandy that was included in the Senate bill.
