WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, Congressman Andy Harris, MD voted for two bills that would give both individuals and businesses a one year delay from The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The first bill H.R. 2667 “The Authority for Mandate Delay Act” would delay for one year the requirement that employers who have more than 50 full time employees provide health insurance for their employees. It would also delay the reporting requirements associated with the mandate. The second bill H.R.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week marked the 50th Annual National Small Business week – a time to celebrate the contributions of small business to the American economy. To recognize the efforts of small businesses in Maryland’s First Congressional District, Congressman Harris is creating an “Entrepreneur Certificate” that will be presented to businesses that are making positive contributions to their community. Throughout the week, Congressman Harris asked people in the first district to share with him businesses that they believe deserve recognition.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, the House Appropriations Committee passed the appropriations bill to fund the Department of Defense. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., the only physician who serves on the committee, successfully advocated for 15 million dollars in funding for reconstructive transplant research. This is the same amount as the program received last year; however during this time when extra scrutiny is being applied to the budget, the threat of a cut to, or elimination of this program existed.

After 1706 days of waiting for a green light from this administration and over 15,000 pages of review, this bill would remove any remaining obstacles and force President Obama to make a decision on this important energy independence and jobs project.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. released the following statement on his vote this evening to repeal The Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – and lay the foundation for patient-centered reforms that actually improve the quality and access to healthcare.

He also participated in a press conference this afternoon with other members of the GOP Doctors Caucus to raise awareness about the over 20,000 pages of regulations associated with Obamacare.

As members of the Labor, HHS Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, they are deeply concerned that Secretary Sebelius’ actions present a clear conflict of interest.

Mikulski (D-MD), together with Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) and the bipartisan Maryland House Delegation, sent a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today urging him to give the University System of Maryland’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) test site proposal his strongest consideration. The entire Maryland delegation strongly supports the University System of Maryland’s bid to be selected as one of six UAS test sites chosen by the Federal Aviation Administration.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. voted for the Reducing Flight Delays Act of 2013 (H.R. 1765) that would allow the Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to transfer $253 million from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program to their operations account – removing any remaining doubt that the FAA can end the furloughs announced Sunday at airports across the country and keep open the contract towers, including those in Easton and Salisbury.
