WASHINGTON, DC: On Thursday, September 13th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4913 to rename a United States Postal facility in honor of the deceased Sgt. Maj. Wardell B. Turner. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) is the original author of H.R. 4913, which will designate the United States Postal facility located at 816 East Salisbury Parkway in Salisbury, Maryland, as the ‘‘Sgt. Maj. Wardell B. Turner Post Office Building''. Congressman Harris released the following statement lauding its passage:

"On Saturday, I received the incredibly heartbreaking news that the widely respected former Presidential candidate and fellow Naval officer Senator John McCain passed away. I know Marylanders are mourning over his passing. Our hearts and prayers go out to family and friends of the late Senator McCain, and he will be honored by a viewing in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda."

WASHINGTON, DC: On July 25, the House Appropriations Committee passed the FY19 Homeland Security Appropriations bill, its final bill for this year. This bill includes $17.8 billion in discretionary funds for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and $7.4 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Included in CBP's funding is $5 billion for border security assets and infrastructure. This funding will be used to construct more than 200 miles of new physical barrier construction along the southern border and to invest in new border security technology. WASHINGTON, DC: Today, the House Committee on Appropriations is considering the FY19 Homeland Security Appropriations bill. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) authored, and the committee approved, an amendment to permanently fix the H-2B visa program. The seafood processing industry and other employers on Maryland's Eastern Shore depend on this program to hire temporary workers when they cannot find Americans interested in their job openings.
