WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $1,305,919 federal grant from the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to the Talbot County Council for a project at the Easton Airport, Newnam Field. Funding originated from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), and can be used for improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $151,616 in federal grants from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Funding was obtained via HRSA's Quality Improvement Awards, which are designed to help health centers further strengthen quality improvement activities and expand quality primary health care service delivery.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced that Wor-Wic Community College on the Lower shore has been awarded a $64,804 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Funds originated from the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program, and specifically, these grants dollars will be used to recruit and enroll veterans and/or their family members in the college's Commercial Driver License program.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced that the Town of Oxford has been named a Class 7 community in the Community Rating System (CRS) administered by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). According to FEMA, "residents living in the Special Flood Hazard area in CRS Class 7 communities will receive a 15 percent discount on NFIP premiums. The greater the investment in reducing flood risk, the greater the insurance savings through the CRS program. As communities move between classes, they implement flood reduction measures and save more on insurance."

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $1,167,605 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education to multiple post-secondary institutions that serve residents of the First Congressional District. Funds were awarded from the Student Support Services Program, which aims to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.

Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of two federal grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to the Maryland Department of Transportation on behalf of the Carroll County Commissioners ($118,174) and Harford County Government ($3,437,370). Funds were awarded through the DOT Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, which makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $184,738.10 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to the Galena Volunteer Fire Company in Kent County. The grant was awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), and follows the announcement of a $2,552.38 AFG grant to Galena VFC in July.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $202,413 U.S. Department of Education grant to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. The grant was awarded through the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP).

According to the Department, "the MSEIP program assists predominantly minority institutions in effecting long-range improvement in science and engineering education programs and increasing the flow of underrepresented ethnic minorities, particularly minority women, into science and engineering careers."
