October 23, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $102,700 in federal grants to three recipients on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Funds were awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Agency. Funds will be used to purchase a police vehicle, purchase and outfit a bookmobile to serve rural communities not served by a physical library, and to purchase furnishings and computers for a day care center. The funds will be administered through the Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants program and the Economic Impact Initiative Grants program. Specific grant allocations are below:

  • Town of Federalsburg (police department): $34,500
  • Wicomico County Free Library: $50,000
  • Easton Day Care Center: $18,200

Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:

"As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of these grants to the Eastern Shore. I support our local law enforcement, and I strongly believe, especially during this pandemic, that providing assistance to our local schools and the parents of our children is critical. My thanks to Secretary Perdue and those in the Rural Development office for their work on this!"
