WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of two federal grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to the Maryland Department of Transportation on behalf of the Carroll County Commissioners ($118,174) and Harford County Government ($3,437,370). Funds were awarded through the DOT Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, which makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities.

The grant was awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), and follows the announcement of a $2,552.38 AFG grant to Galena VFC in July.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $202,413 U.S. Department of Education grant to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. The grant was awarded through the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP).

According to the Department, "the MSEIP program assists predominantly minority institutions in effecting long-range improvement in science and engineering education programs and increasing the flow of underrepresented ethnic minorities, particularly minority women, into science and engineering careers."

Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) successfully inserted language in the 2021 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill that will allow DHS, in consultation with the Department of Labor, to release additional H-2B visas in fiscal year 2021 beyond the statutory cap of 66,000 should a labor shortage exist.

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) announced that the Mid-Shore Regional Council and the Tri-County Council for the Lower Eastern Shore have each been selected to receive sizable grants from the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA). Specifically, the Mid-Shore Regional Council will receive $400,000 and the Tri-County Council will receive $107,937. Funding was provided through the CARES Act, which passed Congress this past Spring.

Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) successfully passed an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2021 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that would prioritize U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) dredging projects that are in close proximity to ongoing island replenishment projects.
