WASHINGTON, DC: On July 13, the House Appropriations Committee adopted an amendment introduced by Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) to the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2018. This amendment prohibits the use of funds to implement or enforce the designation of any area of the Chesapeake Bay watershed as a "Critical Habitat" for the Atlantic Sturgeon. WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Military Service Academies nomination application is now available for those wishing to join the class of 2022. Congressman Harris will nominate some of the finest young men and women from Maryland's First Congressional District for appointments to the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies. The Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional nomination, though Congressman Harris will recommend interested applicants on a case-by-case basis.

Congressman Andy Harris has co-sponsored a bill that would create a commission to celebrate the bicentennial of the birth of famed former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass.

In a statement issued by his office the Eastern Shore Republican called Douglass the father of the civil rights movement.

The measure to create the commission is co-sponsored by D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Douglas was born in Talbot County in 1818 and escaped from slavery in 1838.

He later become a leader in the abolitionist movement as a speaker and writer.

WASHINGTON, DC: On June 15, President Trump rolled back the program known as Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). The Obama-era program is an extension of another program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which allowed children brought into the United States illegally to remain in the country.
