WASHINGTON, DC: On September 21, Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) visited Wye House, the historic plantation house in Talbot County where abolitionist and author Frederick Douglass spent part of his childhood. Born into slavery, Frederick Douglass spent part of his childhood on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, before escaping to freedom in 1838.
WASHINGTON, DC: On September 23, Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) will attend the Eagle Scout project dedication ceremony of Jacob McLaughlin, which honors fallen servicemen from Queen Anne's County. The Congressman will also participate in the Town of Ridgely's 150th anniversary parade, where he will present a citation commemorating the town's anniversary. Ocean City's economy depends heavily on summer tourism and seasonal workers. I have always supported efforts to ensure Maryland's businesses can find the employees they need to succeed.
A recent story misstated my position on the J-1 visa program, which allows foreign students to come to America temporarily to work and experience our culture. Since the inability to find American summertime workers has been an ongoing challenge for small businesses in Ocean City, I have consistently supported the J-1 visa program.

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 5, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the end of the policy known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). This 2012 policy allowed illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children to request deferred action on their immigration status and seek work authorization for two year periods. Harris discussed several topics, including tax reform, health care and foreign policy. He said he believes President Donald Trump will unite the country and help the country grow by packaging several key reforms together in a "Big Deal" to allow for greater bipartisan support so everyone gets something that will benefit them.
