WASHIGTON, DC: On October 8, Vice President Mike Pence left an NFL game after several players refused to stand during the national anthem. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of Vice President Pence:

"As a veteran, I fully support the Vice President's decision to leave the Colts-49ers game after the disrespect the players showed to our flag and our national anthem. I personally will not be attending any NFL games until this disrespect ends."

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 28, the Office of National Drug Control Policy designated Dorchester County, MD as part of the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). The HIDTA program provides assistance to Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas that are considered critical drug-trafficking regions in the United States. HIDTA currently funds 752 initiatives across the country, including enforcement, intelligence and information-sharing, and drug prevention and treatment.

The nation's senior scientific body recently released a new report raising serious questions about the "scientific rigor" of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This report confirms what many in government have suspected for years and is the reason why Congress mandated this report in the first place: our nation's top nutrition policy is not based on sound science.

MARYLAND - The new Republican tax plan is out and there are conflicting viewpoints from political leaders on the eastern shore.

Representative Andy Harris says this plan delivers on the president's promise to invigorate business while increasing the pay checks for average Americans.

Harris says these tax breaks will help bring manufacturing jobs back to the shore. The plan includes a decrease in taxes on small businesses from 39.6 percent to 25 percent. The plan also includes a drop in corporate tax rate to 20 percent.

RIDGELY — The Town of Ridgely celebrate its 150th birthday Saturday, Sept. 23, with a large parade, ribbon cutting to open the restored train station and street festival with free rides.

Ridgely was founded in 1867 with land purchased by Thomas Bell and the Rev. Greenbury Ridgely, for whom the town is named.

GRASONVILLE — Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7464 hosted the unveiling of an Eagle Scout Project designed and orchestrated by Troop 765 Life Scout Jacob McLaughlin, 17, of Queenstown on Saturday, Sept. 23.. Boy Scout Troop 765 is sponsored by Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church in Stevensville.

PSA for all MD-01 residents utilizing or applying for VA benefits:

As of September 27, 2017, the Department of Veterans Affairs will no longer operate the VONAPP website. Going forward, service members and their family members will make all online submissions through VA's Vets.Gov and eBenefits websites. Many applications for benefits will still be able to be filed in person, through VSOs, and by mail.
