September 11, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement after the House of Representatives did not approve the nuclear deal in Iran. The House did not pass H.R. 3461, “To Approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed at Vienna on July 14, 2015, relating to the nuclear program of Iran.” The House also passed H.R. 3460, which would remove the ability of the President to lift or reduce sanctions on Iran within the nuclear agreement.

The event will run from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and is free and open to the public.

WASHINGTON, DC: Today, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) praised the passage of the “21st Century Cures Act,” will take bold action to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of promising new treatments and cures for patients, as well as maintains our nation’s standing as the biomedical innovation capital of the world. H.R. 6, which was strongly supported – and partially written – by Congressman Harris passed the House of Representatives 344 to 77.

Morgan Griffith (VA-09), and Andy Harris, M.D., (MD-01), and Democratic Congressmen Sam Farr (CA-20), and Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) introduced the “Credible Research on Medical Efficacy of Marijuana Amendment” to the 21st Century Cures Act. The 21st Century Cures Act, or H.R. 6, is currently scheduled to be considered on the House floor this week.

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) congratulated several students from Maryland’s First District on the national recognition of their science fair project on cochlear implants. A group of students from Harford Day School in Bel Air were selected as regional winners in the prestigious, highly-competitive competition, the 2015 Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association ExploraVision Awards. The students excelled in their idea for a better cochlear implant device.

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition: YeJin Han, a senior at Parkside High School in Salisbury, Maryland. YeJin’s oil painting, titled “2007 Summer,” depicts her and her friends standing on the beach and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), the only physician member of Congress to have conducted research funded by the NIH, praised the testimony by National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins today announcing that they will be performing an NIH-wide strategic planning and portfolio analysis. Dr. Harris, through both House Appropriations bill language and the House Energy and Commerce 21st Century Cures Discussion draft, has been urging the NIH to take this action.
