WASHINTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., (MD-01) was appointed by Speaker Boehner to the Select Investigative Panel of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. Earlier this year, videos were uncovered showing employees of the largest abortion provider in the country discussing the techniques and practices used to harvest and sell fetal organs. Ongoing investigations at three House committees unveiled the necessity for a select panel. The House passed H.Res.

“As a devout Catholic, I have been impressed by Pope Francis’ ability to communicate so effectively the traditional Catholic messages of mercy and forgiveness, as well as our obligation to take care of those in need. It was an honor to hear him address Congress today. I am glad he included remarks on the importance of family, and ‘our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.’”

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement after the House of Representatives did not approve the nuclear deal in Iran. The House did not pass H.R. 3461, “To Approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed at Vienna on July 14, 2015, relating to the nuclear program of Iran.” The House also passed H.R. 3460, which would remove the ability of the President to lift or reduce sanctions on Iran within the nuclear agreement.

H.R. 6, which was strongly supported – and partially written – by Congressman Harris passed the House of Representatives 344 to 77.

Morgan Griffith (VA-09), and Andy Harris, M.D., (MD-01), and Democratic Congressmen Sam Farr (CA-20), and Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) introduced the “Credible Research on Medical Efficacy of Marijuana Amendment” to the 21st Century Cures Act. The 21st Century Cures Act, or H.R. 6, is currently scheduled to be considered on the House floor this week.

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) congratulated several students from Maryland’s First District on the national recognition of their science fair project on cochlear implants. A group of students from Harford Day School in Bel Air were selected as regional winners in the prestigious, highly-competitive competition, the 2015 Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association ExploraVision Awards. The students excelled in their idea for a better cochlear implant device.
