WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) today announced the award of a $533,057 federal grant to Cecil County for opioid overdose intervention. Funds were provided by the Department of Justice to support the Cecil County Prevention and Overdose Response and Trauma Support Services initiative (PORTSS), focusing on services to children and families. The PORTSS initiative is a first responder-led project utilizing a multidisciplinary team to direct a coordinated response to overdoses in the region.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the approval of a $600,000 USDA loan to Talbot County to finance critical repairs at the Region II Wastewater Treatment Plant. According to USDA "The ability to completely dry the sludge will result in increased processing efficiency at the plant and eliminate the need to have the unprocessed sludge sent off-site for treatment, which resulted in additional costs for hauling and disposal."

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $77,254 in federal grants to four local jurisdictions in Maryland's First Congressional District. The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice and the funds will be dispersed through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) today applauded a task order award from the U.S. Army to Hardwire, LLC in Pocomoke City, Maryland, for the procurement of the Army's next generation Modular Scalable Vest (MSV). The Army MSV program will replace heavy body armor systems with new lightweight armor and carriers. The contract under which the task order was awarded runs through December 2029. The Army's top priority for the MSV program is to "lighten the load" on its troops with a tailorable vest.

September 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) today announced the award of $34,000 to the Wicomico County Government from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help fund a marketing and advertising study aimed at attracting new tourism to the region to support the local small business community. The total study cost will run nearly $180,000, with the county and state funding the balance.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) today announced the award of $2,436,982 in one-time capital improvement grants to the community health centers serving Maryland's Eastern Shore. Funding was administered via the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These grant dollars may be used to support construction, expansion, alteration, renovation, and other capital improvements to modify, enhance, and expand health care infrastructure.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) reacted to a Howard County man being sentenced today to eight consecutive weekends of jail time, two years of supervised probation including six months of home detention, and 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a federal felony. The convicted offender threatened deadly violence against Congressman Harris, his family, and staff in December 2020.
