WASHINGTON, DC: Students from Maryland's First District interested in attending a military service academy should be advised that the deadline to apply for a nomination from Congressman Harris is October 30, 2017.

WASHIGTON, DC: On October 8, Vice President Mike Pence left an NFL game after several players refused to stand during the national anthem. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of Vice President Pence:

"As a veteran, I fully support the Vice President's decision to leave the Colts-49ers game after the disrespect the players showed to our flag and our national anthem. I personally will not be attending any NFL games until this disrespect ends."

WASHINGTON, DC: On October 8, the White House released an outline of President Trump's immigration principles and priorities. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) issued the following statement in support of the President's agenda:

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 28, the Office of National Drug Control Policy designated Dorchester County, MD as part of the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). The HIDTA program provides assistance to Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas that are considered critical drug-trafficking regions in the United States. HIDTA currently funds 752 initiatives across the country, including enforcement, intelligence and information-sharing, and drug prevention and treatment.

As of September 27, 2017, the Department of Veterans Affairs will no longer operate the VONAPP website. Going forward, service members and their family members will make all online submissions through VA's Vets.Gov and eBenefits websites. Many applications for benefits will still be able to be filed in person, through VSOs, and by mail.

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 21, Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) visited Wye House, the historic plantation house in Talbot County where abolitionist and author Frederick Douglass spent part of his childhood. Born into slavery, Frederick Douglass spent part of his childhood on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, before escaping to freedom in 1838.

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 23, Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) will attend the Eagle Scout project dedication ceremony of Jacob McLaughlin, which honors fallen servicemen from Queen Anne's County. The Congressman will also participate in the Town of Ridgely's 150^th anniversary parade, where he will present a citation commemorating the town's anniversary. Members of the media are invited to attend both of these events.

WASHINGTON, DC: On September 6, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a $7.85 billion emergency funding bill for Hurricane Harvey response and recovery. Two days later, on September 8, the House passed an amended version of the relief package that included raising the debt ceiling.
