OCEAN CITY, Md. - Ocean City is getting emergency federal attention, but you wouldn't know it unless you do business on the water.

Rising sand bars have already caused one ship carrying 11,000 pounds of fish to run aground, and the fear is many others could suffer a similar fate.

That's why Congressman Andy Harris called in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to tackle the problem before it gets out of hand.

Help is on the way for boat captains struggling to navigate through the Ocean City Inlet in the wake of a series of powerful winter storms.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accelerating plans to dredge the channel. It is canceling scheduled work in New Jersey to prioritize the beleaguered inlet south of Ocean City, a key passage for commercial fishing vessels.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris' office said the 1st District representative contacted the corps after receiving reports that a buildup of sand was jeopardizing access for larger ships.

SALISBURY, Md. - Eastern Shore representative Andy Harris held a town hall meeting at Wicomico High School Saturday afternoon for a discussion centering around tax reform.

Other topics were discussed relating to economics, including addressing the deficit, and creating a budget amendment, with some unrelated to economics, including gerrymandering and the lack of women in government.

Harris says the way to reduce the deficit is not to raise taxes, but to cut taxes to grow the economy.

In the front showroom of The Taney Corp. on Allendale Lane in Taneytown, there is a sweeping, walnut staircase that ascends through a cream-colored aperture in the ceiling. If you stand beneath it and look up, as owner Jeff Glass invited a group of local dignitaries who had assembled around visiting Congressman Andy Harris, R-District 1, you would see the staircase has "an elliptical shape, a sort of that egg shape to it," Glass said. "Very unusual type of stair."
