As a physician, I am keenly aware of the challenges that all Americans face when it comes to health care.
I believe people with preexisting medical conditions should retain access to insurance. However, real reforms are necessary to make quality health care coverage more affordable and accessible. Everyone should be able to purchase insurance across state lines – competition always provides the best possible product at the lowest possible price. And finally, we must preserve and strengthen the doctor-patient relationship. Physicians, not government bureaucrats, should provide guidance on medical decisions that affect you and your family.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced a $387,500 award to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The funds were awarded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, an office under the Department of Health and Human Services. The funding will support Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry Research at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and help investigate biomarkers for prostate cancers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced awards to Choptank Community Health System, Inc., located in Denton, Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc., located in Salisbury, and West Cecil Health Center, Inc, located in Conowingo. The recipients are health care service centers in Maryland's First District. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded $108,302 to Choptank Community Health System, $56,000 to Three Lower Counties Community Services, and $35,611 to West Cecil Health Center under the Health Center Cluster Program.

"The cost estimate for this bill is $168 billion over the next ten years, yet Members of Congress who criticized the Trump tax cuts were willing to eliminate this tax and increase our debt and deficit. While almost every Democrat supported the bill, I'm surprised so many of them cast a vote in favor of repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)."

HRSA is an agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Andy Harris (MD-01) announced an award of $514,336 to the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a facility in Cambridge whose focus is to improve health care coverage and services. The grant was awarded through the Healthy Kids 2019 program of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

WASHINGTON, DC: On July 24, the U.S. Department of Labor announced it will issue a $2 million grant for the implementation of job training programs in substance abuse rehabilitation facilities in Maryland. This grant is part of a broader $22 million effort to provide reemployment services for individuals affected by substance abuse disorder. HAVRE DE GRACE — U.S. Rep. Andy Harris (R-1st District) discussed addiction treatment's successes and challenges with officials at Ashley Addiction Treatment on Tuesday.
Harris previously toured Ashley's facilities in Elkton in March to talk to officials about issues related to the nation's opioid epidemic.
WASHINGTON, DC: On June 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. This package of bipartisan bills includes Medicaid, Medicare, and public health reforms to combat the opioid crisis.
