Health

As a physician, I am keenly aware of the challenges that all Americans face when it comes to health care.
I believe people with preexisting medical conditions should retain access to insurance. However, real reforms are necessary to make quality health care coverage more affordable and accessible. Everyone should be able to purchase insurance across state lines – competition always provides the best possible product at the lowest possible price. And finally, we must preserve and strengthen the doctor-patient relationship. Physicians, not government bureaucrats, should provide guidance on medical decisions that affect you and your family.

The nation's senior scientific body recently released a new report raising serious questions about the "scientific rigor" of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This report confirms what many in government have suspected for years and is the reason why Congress mandated this report in the first place: our nation's top nutrition policy is not based on sound science.
CAMBRIDGE — The Cambridge Rotary Club hosted U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, R-1st, Thursday, Aug. 10, during his visit to the county.
Harris discussed several topics, including tax reform, health care and foreign policy. He said he believes President Donald Trump will unite the country and help the country grow by packaging several key reforms together in a "Big Deal" to allow for greater bipartisan support so everyone gets something that will benefit them.
WASHINGTON, DC: On July 25, Representatives Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD-01), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR-03), H. Morgan Griffith (R-VA-09), and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19) introduced the Medical Marijuana Research Act of 2017. This bill heeds the calls of the medical research community to address the burdensome processes that currently hinder medical research on marijuana. This bipartisan bill removes barriers inhibiting medical marijuana research.
A new measure took effect on Monday in the nation's capital, allowing doctors and pharmacies to provide terminally ill patients with life-ending medication. Washington, D.C.'s mayor signed the Death with Dignity Act last December, but the measure wasn't implemented until this week.
Rep. Andy Harris, M.D., is a towering, surprisingly skinny 60-year-old, but as he walks the halls of Congress no heads turn. Tourists haven't heard of him, national reporters mostly ignore him and rarely does a single one of the thousands of camera phones on the Capitol grounds come out to capture a shot of the four-term Republican from Maryland. While that seemingly perpetual level of anonymity is par for the course for most of the nation's 435 members of the House of Representatives, Harris has gained notoriety in Washington.
WASHINGTON, DC: On June 28, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1215, the Protecting Access to Care Act (PACA), by a 218-210 vote. This medical liability reform legislation will prevent lawsuit abuse by capping noneconomic damages and limiting contingency fees for attorneys. Dr. Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement in support of the legislation and passage:
WASHINGTON — The "telephone" town hall began as most do.
There was an early question from a constituent about the financial solvency of Social Security, another about the recent passage of a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, then a pointed query as to why the telephone town hall was a telephone town hall and not an in-person one.
WASHINGTON, DC: On May 4, Dr. Andy Harris (MD-01) voted in favor of the H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The bill was passed by the House of Representatives by a vote of 217-213. Dr. Harris released the following statement following the passage of the bill:
