Recently on the floor of the House of Representatives, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. joined members of the Doctors Caucus to shed light on the negative effects of The Affordable Care Act – also known as Obamacare. He was joined by fellow physicians Congressman Phil Roe (TN-1) and Congressman Phil Gingrey (GA-11).

During this session of the Doctors Caucus Special Order Hour, Congressman Harris called for the repeal of the Medical Device Tax. This tax would discourage innovation of medical equipment that would improve the lives of Americans. The future vitality of the American healthcare system is dependent upon companies creating better equipment that is more efficient and effective. Taxing innovation is the wrong approach that will hurt the American healthcare system.

A portion of his remarks along with those of Congressmen Roe and Gingrey is below.

Rep. Andy Harris did an interview with Newsmax TV via Skype where he shared his reactions to President Obama's State of the Union address.

Here are some of the highlights:

President Barack Obama was “long on rhetoric but very short on actual policy. The president offered no suggestions as to how he is going so solve the debt and deficit, with the one exception that again the president appears to be a one-trick pony here: it’s taxes, taxes, taxes. There were no specific cuts.”

On Medicare

"He mentioned briefly that he was going to look at Medicare along the lines of what Simpson Bowles recommended. Well, I've got to tell you, Simpson-Bowles didn’t mention Medicare. The president, who apparently hasn’t even read the Simpson-Bowles report, went on national television in front of the nation yesterday, and honestly misled the American people.

On American energy production:

“The president hasn’t done anything but attempt to inhibit oil and gas production in this country over the last four years. This is the rooster taking credit for the dawn; this president has done everything he can to slow down hydraulic fracturing, to slow down the recovering from shale of oil and natural gas, and now he’s trying to take credit, and worse than that, he’s actually going to attempt to tax the industry. He had no role in the expansion of that industry, and he's going to tax the industry to pay for his programs.”
