Senate Democrats Vote to Shut Down Government

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) released the following statement after the Senate failed to pass a government funding bill on January 19:

"I am disgusted that Senate Democrats forced the government to shut down tonight. It is outrageous that the Democrats chose keeping illegal immigrants in the United States over funding our federal government and providing health insurance to 9 million American children. The DACA deadline Democrats are peddling is fiction and was put on hold for judicial review – this is NOT an immediate issue, and there are bipartisan immigration discussions already underway.

Senator Schumer is not interested in governing, only obstructing those who are. We wouldn't need to pass short-term spending bills if Mr. Schumer would allow the Senate to debate the appropriations bills that the House passed last September. The Senate Democrats acted in bad faith tonight, and should be ashamed of themselves."
