Rep. Harris Supports Repealing Job-Crushing 1099 Mandate
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House will begin debate on H.R. 4 “Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act” to address the inherently flawed ‘1099 provision’ in the Obamacare law. The ‘1099 provision’ forces 30 million businesses, large and small, to file burdensome tax forms every time they spend $600 or more with an individual vendor.
“Repealing the job-destroying ‘1099 provision’ will provide our small businesses much needed relief,” said Rep. Andy Harris. “The burden placed on small businesses by the ‘1099 provision’ will force them to utilize resources on arduous reporting requirements instead of using those resources to create new jobs. We should be doing everything we can to help our job-creators sign new paychecks rather than require them to fill out new IRS forms.”
The ‘1099 provision’ is just one part of the flawed Obamacare law. Recently, the independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reported that the law will destroy 800,000 jobs. The maze of regulations, tax hikes and penalties that Obamacare imposes on small businesses are not conducive to fostering an environment for long-term economic growth.
“I believe that before anything else, government must first do no harm, especially to the economy. And while it is necessary for a free society, government should be a partner, not a bully – a helping hand, not a hindrance. Most of all, America must remain a beacon of freedom to all those who think, like me, that our best days are still to come.” - Andy Harris, Thoughtful Conservatism
