Rep. Harris Lauds Passage of the Protect and Serve Act

May 16, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC: On May 16, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5698, the Protect and Serve Act. The Protect and Serve Act establishes federal penalties for violent crimes deliberately targeting federal, state, and local law enforcement. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) released the following statement lauding the bill's passage:

"Every day, law enforcement officers across the country risk their lives to protect our communities and enforce the rule of law. Tragically, since January, 54 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty. Congress has an obligation to curb this horrific pattern of violence. By creating federal penalties for violent crimes committed against law enforcement officers, the Protect and Serve Act will help to protect the men and women in law enforcement who protect us."
