Rep. Harris Issues Statement on Passage of FY19 Spending Bills

June 8, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC: On June 8, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5895, the Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), a member of the Appropriations Committee, made the following statement lauding the bill's passage:

"Last year, Congress passed four temporary funding patches before finally passing a deeply flawed omnibus spending bill on March 22 – more than five months late. Today, the House of Representatives sent a clear message to the American people and to the Senate: we are returning to getting things done on time and getting our nation's finances back on track. The spending bills passed by the House today provide $85.3 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs and direct $7.28 billion to the Army Corps of Engineers for repairing our nation's water resources infrastructure, including much needed dredging in Maryland's First District. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I am committed to seeing the rest of our spending bills passed through the House in a timely manner, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to follow suit."
