Rep. Harris Announces Grants to First District Colleges and Universities

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $1,167,605 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education to multiple post-secondary institutions that serve residents of the First Congressional District. Funds were awarded from the Student Support Services Program, which aims to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.

Specific grant allocations are listed below:

  • Chesapeake College: $643,829
  • Wor-Wic Community College: $261,888
  • Salisbury University: $261,888

Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:

"As a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of these grants to our local academic institutions. These funds are an investment in the education and economy on the Eastern Shore, helping our students navigate the often confusing and complex hurdles to attaining a degree, which will help produce more well-qualified job candidates in our communities."
