Rep. Harris Announces Assistance to Firefighters Grant to Singerly Fire Company
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $4,527.27 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to the William M. Singerly Steam Fire Engine and Hook and Ladder Company in Elkton. The grant was awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).
According to FEMA, "the primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards."
Congressman Harris made the following statement:
"As a physician, I understand the need to support emergency personnel in our local communities. Our local first responders save lives, and as member of the Appropriations Committee grants like this have my full support. The award of this grant is good news as we celebrate the Fourth of July holiday."
