House Committee Passes Harris Amendment to Prevent Misfueling
WASHINGTON, DC: On June 6, the House Committee on Appropriations passed the FY19 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) authored, and the committee agreed to, an amendment encouraging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish an outreach campaign for proper usage of fifteen percent by volume ethanol blended gasoline. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) made the following statement lauding the amendment's passage:
"The use of ethanol blended gasoline in boats, older cars, and off-road vehicles can damage engines, void product warranties, and result in undue economic loss to consumers. My common-sense amendment protects consumers by encouraging the EPA to establish an outreach campaign informing consumers of the dangers of misfueling. Ninety five percent of boats are fueled at retail gas stations, and most consumers assume that any gas sold at a gas station is safe for their vehicle. The outreach campaign outlined in my amendment will help prevent engine burnout and save consumers money."
