Harris Issues Statement on Latest Bloated Spending Package
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) issued the following statement after the House passed the final Fiscal Year 2022 omnibus spending package late yesterday evening:
"Especially as Russia actively wages war in Eastern Europe, we cannot shortchange our defense spending, but we have to address our out of control non-defense spending that is fueling the inflationary crisis. I voted against Speaker Pelosi's latest bloated social spending bill, which was laden with pork and left-wing policy priorities – believe it or not, it even increased the Congressional budget by nearly 12%! Until we learn to spend within our means, everyday Americans will continue to feel more pain at the pump, to put food on the table, and to heat their homes."
Congressman Harris sits on the House Committee on Appropriations. The non-defense portion of the omnibus legislation increased total spending by approximately $46 billion over Fiscal Year 2021 levels, which amounts to a 6.7% increase in non-defense discretionary spending year-over-year.
