Harris Applauds nearly $10 million Head Start Grant to Shore Up! Inc. in Salisbury

June 19, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $9,805,843 federal grant to Shore Up! Inc., a facility in Salisbury whose focus is to help people reach personal economic independence. SHORE UP is an acronym which stands for: "Self-Help on Rural Economics and Urban Problems." The Administration for Children and Families, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), allocated the funds to Shore Up! Inc. under the Head Start Program. Specifically, the Head Start Program is designed to promote school readiness of children ages birth to five years old from low-income families by supporting the development of the whole child.

Rep. Harris made the following statement regarding the grant:

"As a member of the Health and Human Services subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of these federal funds to help families in need on the Eastern Shore. Shore Up! serves many low-income families in the greater Salisbury region, and their work with Head Start will help disadvantaged kids become successful and thrive. Promoting early education and self-sufficiency is critical to our Eastern Shore communities, and I am pleased HHS has once again made a sizable Head Start award to Shore Up!"
