Harris Announces Over $18 Million in Emergency Grants to Airports
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of $18,368,304 in federal grants from the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program. Funding was provided by the recently enacted CARES Act, also known as the "Phase III" Congressional emergency legislation. The CARES Act provided $10 billion in funding for the FAA to allow critical safety and capacity projects to continue as planned regardless of airport sponsors' current financial circumstances while preparing for, and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, six airports in the First Congressional District will receive funding:
- Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport: $30,000
- Crisfield-Somerset County Airport: $1,000
- Easton Airport – Newnam Field: $157,000
- Ocean City Municipal Airport: $30,000
- Salisbury Regional Airport: $18,120,304
- Bay Bridge Airport (Stevensville): $30,000
Congressman Harris made the following statement on the FAA awards:
"I support our local regional airports and the rural communities they serve on the Eastern Shore. These small businesses support badly needed jobs in our local communities, and during this pandemic and economic disruption, I thank the FAA for quickly distributing funding to airports in the First District. I will continue to work to support jobs on the Eastern Shore."
