Harris Announces Middle and Lower Shore Federal Grants to Address Homelessness
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced more than $152,000 in federal grants to address homelessness on the middle and lower shore. The following grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- $47,006 to the Mid Shore Behavioral Health Inc. Independent Housing Opportunity Program, in Easton
- A $83,017 grant and a $22,581 grant to Somerset County Health Department, in Westover
The grants are designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to quickly re-house homeless individuals, families, persons fleeing domestic violence, and youth while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; and to promote self-sufficiency among those experiencing homelessness.
Congressman Harris made the following statement:
"Homelessness is a serious problem, and as a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I am committed to ensuring that our local rural communities on the Eastern Shore get the help they need. Providing assistance to homeless families and moving individuals to greater self-sufficiency benefits our local community and economy. I applaud the investment of these federal funds on the Eastern Shore."
