March 26, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $2,369,022 federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Head Start to the Maryland Rural Development Corporation in Greensboro. The HHS Office of Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families by providing grant funding and oversight to agencies that provide Head Start services in the local community. Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the comprehensive development of children from birth to age 5, in centers, child care partner locations, and in their own homes. Head Start services include early learning, health, and family well-being.

Congressman Harris made the following statement:

"As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I applaud the award of this grant to support Head Start programs in rural Maryland. These funds support many families with young children in our rural communities. I am committed to ensuring that families in rural America receive the help they need to sustain our rural way of life."
