Harris Announces Grant to Wor-Wic Community College

September 18, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $64,655 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury. The award is a discretionary grant through the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program. The goals of the grant program include expanding the number of commercial driver license (CDL) holders possessing enhanced operator safety training and to assist veterans and their spouses to receive training to transition to the commercial motor vehicle industry.

Wor-Wic Community College offers commercial driver license training for Class A and Class B driver's exams, preparing students for professions driving 18-wheelers or other commercial trucks, and courses to acquire school bus and passenger endorsements.

Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:

"As a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this grant to Wor-Wic Community College. These funds are an investment in the education and economy on the Eastern Shore, helping to prepare our students for good paying jobs that are in high demand. The growth of e-commerce created a shortage of drivers that has an impact throughout our economy, and this training helps fill that need."
