Harris Announces COVID Emergency Response Grant to Wicomico County

May 22, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) announced that the Wicomico County Government will receive $58,008 in federal grants from the Department of Justice's Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program. Specifically, the CESF Program allows States, U.S. Territories, the District of Columbia, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. Funded projects or initiatives may include, but are not limited to, overtime, equipment (including law enforcement and medical personal protective equipment), hiring, supplies (such as gloves, masks, sanitizer), training, travel expenses (particularly related to the distribution of resources to the most impacted areas), and addressing the medical needs of inmates in state, local, and tribal prisons, jails, and detention centers.

Congressman Harris made the following statement:

"As a physician, I understand the importance of protecting public health. As we move to re-open Maryland, jurisdictions will require additional attention and financial assistance to safely re-open. Wicomico County is home to a significant portion of our national poultry processing industry, and I thank the administration for providing this supplemental funding. We can reopen many of our local small businesses and restaurants safely with social distancing and use of masks, and I will continue to advocate for safely reopening our local economy and community."
