Harris Announces Counseling Grant to UMES
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $199,033 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. Funding originated from the Rehabilitation Counseling Program, which was created by Congress to ensure that skilled personnel are available to serve the rehabilitation needs of individuals with disabilities assisted through vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, and independent living programs. To that end, the program supports training and related activities designed to increase the number of qualified personnel trained in providing rehabilitation services.
Congressman Harris issued the following statement:
“As a former educator and member of the House Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Education, I applaud the award of this grant to UMES. These dollars will allow the university to offer high quality instruction in the field of vocational rehabilitation for those with disabilities, creating good paying jobs and allowing those with disabilities in my district to live fuller lives.”
