Harris Announces 2021 Congressional Art Competition Winner
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) has announced the First Congressional District of Maryland's winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition: Georgia Mercer from Cecil County. Entitled "Angelfish," Georgia's work will hang in the halls of Congress for one year, and she will be honored at the annual award winners ceremony in Washington, D.C. The painting was done in a gouache watercolor medium.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:
"Congratulations to Georgia and my thanks to all the contestants from Maryland's First District for submitting their entries. Selecting a winner each year is very challenging, and I chose Georgia's work because of the spectacular images and color which allow the viewer to really grasp every level of contrast. I look forward to seeing ‘Angelfish' hanging in the Congressional tunnel as I walk to vote in the year to come."
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
