Congressman Harris Announces Three USDA Rural Development Grants to Volunteer Fire Companies In Maryland’s First District
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., Chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations, announced a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development investment grant in the amount of $342,500.00 to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company (VFC). This Rural Development investment will be used to replace a sixteen-year-old ambulance that is obsolete and requires many repairs. This grant will also be used to purchase additional emergency equipment.
Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., also announced a USDA Rural Development investment grant in the amount of $187,000.00 for the Galena Volunteer Fire Company. This grant will be used to purchase a new ambulance as well as updated equipment for their emergency vehicles.
In addition, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., announced a USDA Rural Development investment grant in the amount of $271,000.00 to purchase a second ambulance for Pocomoke City, Maryland. This new ambulance will replace a vehicle from 2016 that does not meet safety standards for preventingthe spread of COVID-19 to patients and emergency medical staff.

“I am pleased to see the USDA issued Rural Development grants to the Rock Hall and Galena Volunteer Fire Companies and to purchase an additional ambulance for Pocomoke City. It is critical that our firefighters have access to the appropriate emergency equipment so that our First District residents receive emergency services in a timely manner.”
