Congressman Harris Announces a $538,500 Rural Development Grant to Increase Food Distribution Efforts on Maryland’s Eastern Shore

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., Chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations, announced a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development grant in the amount of $538,500.00 to increase food distribution efforts on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

This Rural Development investment will be used for the establishment of the Eastern Shore Delmarva Farm to Freezer project. The communities served by this project will include: Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

“As Chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations, I am pleased to see the USDA awarded this grant to assist with increasing food distribution across the Eastern Shore. Access to nutritious food continues to be a struggle for many hardworking families in several of our counties and the Delmarva Farm to Freezer project will help in providing the resources needed to expand access to healthy food.”
