Congressman Andy Harris Blasts Maryland Delegation for Keeping the Government Closed Amid Potential EBT Delays

October 23, 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., is calling out the entire Maryland Democrat delegation for voting to keep the government closed, even as thousands of Maryland families face potential delays in receiving SNAP and EBT benefits.

During his recent Telephone Town Hall, Congressman Harris highlighted the looming shortfall in SNAP reserves that could prevent EBT cards from being reloaded if the shutdown continues.

Statement from Congressman Andy Harris:

“That reserve is going to run out. It’s going to run out sometime in November – could be very early November. They may not even know until next week. In that case, those EBT cards won’t be loaded until the government is reopened. That’s one of the reasons why I voted to keep the government running.”
