Congressman Harris Applauds Termination of Offshore Wind Funding
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. is commending U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and the Department of Transportation for their decisive action to withdraw $679 million in funding from 12 offshore wind projects that failed to meet federal infrastructure priorities.
This includes the Sparrows Point Steel Marshalling Port Project (PIDP; $47,392,500). The site at Sparrows Point Steel, a subsidiary of U.S. Wind, would have been a key manufacturing hub for Maryland Offshore Wind and several other offshore wind projects along the Atlantic Coast. |
Statement From Congressman Harris:
“I applaud Secretary Sean Duffy and the U.S. Department of Transportation for their decision to withdraw $679 million in funding from failed offshore wind projects.
This decision is a major win for our local communities, fishermen, and our coastal economy. The offshore wind industry has repeatedly overpromised and underdelivered—threatening marine ecosystems, disrupting historic industries like commercial fishing, and burdening taxpayers with billions in subsidies.
Maryland’s Eastern Shore is not a testing ground for green energy experiments. I thank the White House and DOT for standing with our community, defending our coastline, and working to terminate these reckless offshore wind projects once and for all.”
